About the author

Dr. Joe Breault is a board-certified Family Medicine physician with 35 years of primary care practice, now retired. He earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine's Residency Program in Social Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident.

He spent 3 years working as a physician with the Oglala Sioux Tribe in Pine Ridge & Rapid City, South Dakota. He has worked in medical clinics in Cameroon, Thailand, Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, and Guatemala. He was a primary care physician at Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans for 31+ years before retiring in Nov 2023.

He holds additional graduate degrees in Physics (MS, Stevens Institute of Technology), Public Health & Tropical Medicine (MPHTM, Tulane), and a Doctor of Science (ScD, Tulane; Thesis: Data mining a diabetic data warehouse to improve outcomes). He maintains board certification with the American Board of Family Medicine and an active medical license. At Ochsner Health System, he served two four-year terms on the Health System's Board of Directors, nearly two decades as Chair of the Institutional Review Boards (IRB), and about a decade as Chair of the Bioethics Committee. His research and clinical publications are indexed on PubMed.

He launched Healthy Insight to share evidence-based primary care education and insights with patients navigating a healthcare system that has made it increasingly difficult to find a trusted physician.
